With so many real estate agents in the area, it can be difficult to find the agent who is the right fit. However, there are some proactive steps that you can take to find a good agent who will zealously represent your interests.

Ask for a Referral

If you have any friends or coworkers who have bought or sold a home recently, ask them for a referral. You can also check with the local Better Business Bureau or review online reviews of agents to get feedback from individuals who have personally used the agent’s services.

Check Prospects

Once you have a few potential leads on agents, start doing your research. Check with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation or visit it online to find out how long the real estate agent has been licensed and whether there are any disciplinary records associated with the real estate agent.

Schedule interviews with those agents in whom you are interested. When you meet with them, ask about their particular experience and whether they focus on a particular subset of properties, such as commercial, single family or condos. Ask if they have any extra credentials or business that gives them greater insight.

Ask to Talk with Previous Clients

Ask prospects for the names of his or her most recent clients so that you can contact them and learn about their personal experience with the agent. When you do talk to prior clients, inquire about the actual asking price and the final sales price.

Ask about Other Listings

If you are selling your home, you will want to know about other properties on the market that may be your competition. You want to be sure that the agent knows your area and the relevant market. If you know of a home that sold in the area recently, ask about it. If your agent is familiar with the sales price, he or she is likely more familiar with your area or has at least done his or her homework before meeting you.
